The full range of functions

The range of MultiPack for Robot functions explained

Optimisation module 1/2

In order to maximise the productivity of the palletising robot used, two optimisation modules are employed.

After input of both package and pallet dimensions and based on your specifications, the first module calculates the best layer and stacking plans.

Numerous practical options from MultiPack are available to you, for example:

  • When palletising rectangular packages: mirroring or rotation of single layers, or combinations of different layers in order to achieve a stable interlocking stack
  • When palletising round packages: calculation of optimal layer plans with regular packing configurations, or a mix of different packing structures.
  • When palletising oval packages: calculation of optimal layer plans with regular packing configurations, or a mix of different packing structures depending on the form and dimensions of the oval items.

Optimisation module 2/2

Specially configured for your palletising robot, the second module optimises for every layer plan under consideration:

  • The grouping of packages in the gripper
  • The pick up coordinates of the gripper with the corresponding angle
  • The place coordinates of the gripper with the corresponding angle
  • The place sequence
  • The approach direction of the gripper during the placing

The following factors are taken into account:

  • Interfering contours in the work area
  • How the robot is equipped, for example
    • which gripper is used: vacuum, clamp, or fork gripper
    • the permitted gripper rotation angles
    • the space available for the equipment
    • the reach of the robot arm

This allows your system to fully exploit its performance potential.

Additionaly, MultiPack for Robots can take into account:

  • The position of labels
  • The placement of intermediate layers

All information is stored for subsequent palletising operations.

Start the palletising robot with just a few clicks

When changing to a new package format, MultiPack for Robots calculates several optimal layer and stacking configurations in seconds.
You choose the best layout for your requirements, with just a click.

  • You can then flexibly adjust the layer configuration and palletising sequence without any programming skills.

  • The integrated simulation shows you directly whether the chosen solution is feasible for your system.

  • Control data for the robot are created automatically and can be exported a the touch of a button, exactly matching the position of the packages.

The result is more productivity, maximum flexibility, and noticeable savings in both time and cost, especially when package dimensions change frequently.

The adjacent animation illustrates the easy operation of MultiPack for Robots. From entering the dimensions of the package and pallet, the choice of stacking configuration, the 2D simulation of the automated palletising, to the automatic generation of the control data.

Other shapes of packages

MultiPack for Robots also works for other shapes of package. The following illustrations show several examples.

Frequently asked questions about MultiPack for Robots

MultiPack for Robots supports rectangular and cylindrical packages in its base version. Control data for automatic palletising of oval or complex packages (flat cardboard blanks) can be calculated with custom versions.
In our software, vacuum, clamping and fork grippers can be specified.
No. The software will operate on standard windows systems and is generally installed on an office PC in production planning, or directly onto the robot.
Yes. Since MultiPack for Robots only calculates source and destination coordinates, the type of system involved only plays a minor role. When setting the TCP limits, you can choose between a radial working area for multi access robots and a square working area for linear robots.
In the standard version, text files are created which can be imported into the programme of the robot integrator, or further processed. In adapted versions, the delivery can be achieved for example:

  • via TCP/IP as text
  • via TCP/IP directly into the data block of a Siemens PLC
  • by „Robot Web Services“

Yes. For all types of gripper, you can specify whether several packages are to be lifted together. In the standard version, all the packages will have the same orientation. There are customer specific versions in which, for each operation, the packages can be picked up either lengthwise or crosswise. If a turntable is used, adapted versions of the software can take into account a rotation of 180°, so that ideally, the package labels are visible from the outside without any loss of performance.

This is possible in the standard version with a MultiGrip/SinglePlace vacuum gripper. For every place step, individual control data is generated. In addition to the usual information such as coordinates, gripper rotation angle and approach vector, this also contains the vacuum groups that remain active.

When control data can only be generated with programming knowledge or a time consuming teach-in process. None of this is necessary if you use MultiPack for Robots. With MultiPack for Robots, you can calculate the best possible stable stacking configuration. Not all control systems fulfill this criterion.

Profit from the expertise of the Multiscience team
